Adhesion – in the context of 3D printing, adhesion occurs between the first layer of the printout and the ceramic heatbed. Insufficient adhesion may result in a partial or complete printout detachment from the heatbed. The ceramic heatbed provides very good adhesion for basic filaments, for example PLA. There are several commercial solutions to improve the adhesion for more difficult materials with bigger shrinkage factor (ABS, Nylon, etc.). Greasy or dirty surface of the heatbed reduces the adhesion.
